Pre-Primary

In Pre-Primary children are exposed to many pre-literacy and pre-numeracy concepts through play.  For those children who are already literate, their skills are further developed through the avenue of play.

Pre-Primary students participate in PIPS (Performance Indicators in Primary Schools).  This test is administered at the beginning and end of the school year.  It provides us with information regarding the level of each pre-primary cohort and enables the Year 1 teacher to tailer the curriculum suiting the needs of each young individual.

Our goals for these formative years are:-

  • to foster in the child, love and respect for God.  To grow in a knowledge of God and the fundamental teaching of the Bible
  • to develop in the child an awareness of him/herself as a unique person with special abilities
  • to offer the child a background of basic skills and concepts in a number of learning areas
  • to expand the child's vocabulary and understanding of words through a wide variety of action and language experiences
  • to help the child adjust to a social situation outside the home which includes people in the wider community
  • to encourage an appreciation of other people, their efforts, their property, their needs and feelings, their compassion and friendship
  • to provide a supportive, caring environment where the child feels accepted and secure
  • to help the child develop self control, emotionally, socially and physically
  • to foster creative thinking and the ability to solve problems
